Be the first kind of serious and never the second

Today I caught myself being serious during an unserious matter — writing an article. The article was about the difference between recurring and non recurring revenue, something you can get serious about fast. But serious work makes for mediocre work.

I’m not talking about this kind of serious:

1. demanding careful consideration or application (adj.)

I’m talking about this kind:

2. significant or worrying because of possible danger or risk; not slight or negligible (adj.)

The first kind of serious is the good kind. Work worth doing is serious work. It deserves careful consideration and application. The second kind of serious is the bad kind. It’s what shuts down your opportunity to enjoy something that’s commonly thought of as laborious, draining, stressful, or mandatory.

So this is a reminder to myself: Be the first kind of serious and never the second. Find fun in every moment, no matter what you’re doing. Don’t be serious because of potential danger or risk (not getting the job offer, not writing a great article, not completing the assignment correctly). Be serious because it’s worth your time…

…while remembering not to take it too seriously. 😛
