Movies understand me and inspire me. They teach me things about life that make me a better person.
Since a child I’ve loved movies, but I became especially fond of them after seeing movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Negotiator, Air Force One, Saving Private Ryan, Heat, and Gladiator in the late 90’s.
And then came The Fellowship of the Ring. Managing to see it four times in theaters, it was apparent I had a unique fascination with movies. In the summers my grandma watched me, she would take me to the rental store where I’d pick out 2-3 titles for a given day. So if I wasn’t mowing grass or playing paintball, I was watching movies.
My BIG movie experience, though, came the summer before 9th grade. This was the summer I fell in love for the first time. With a sore mouth and tender heart, I watched the movie Lost in Translation. And because of my emotional state, this movie affected me more than any other movie – to this day.
Continuing to be awed by movies like Thirteen, V for Vendetta, Gone Baby Gone, District 9, Inception, and Short Term 12 through high school, college, and my early adult life, I eventually decided to start writing screenplays.
