What you do now determines where you’ll be next. What you do today determines where you’ll be tomorrow. And we are the sum of the actions we make in each moment of our life.
I’ve been hearing stuff like this forever, but only recently has the truth behind it saturated my soul, permeated my senses. I understand what it means. I feel the truth behind it. Before it was easy to nod my head at and neglect. Now it drives everything I do.
For instance, as I write this, I’m choosing to write a journal entry instead of turning off the lights and resting my head on the pillow. The reason I’m choosing to write is because I want to be a better writer. I don’t want to be a better writer in the future. I want to be a better writer now. Writing a little journal entry will help me achieve this.
Not long ago I would have convinced myself that writing tonight isn’t necessary. I would have made a note in my calendar to start writing a nightly journal entry in the future and that would have been enough. I could have slept well. But the future becomes the past quickly, especially when you’re addicted to relying on the future to do the work for you.
You see, that moment you just experienced, it’s gone. Are you okay with that? If not, it’s time to do something now. Not later.
Make good decisions in the moment and good things will come.
